ABOUT

What is the London Greek Film Festival [LGFF]?

The London Greek Film Festival is the crossroad between West and East that leads us to discover and explore the idea of globalisation through a Hellenic glance. It aims to introduce Greek film to the international public, but at the same time fosters a challenge for artists from all over the world to showcase anything Greek! Dedicated to the moving image, the LGFF invites the spectator to an extravagant experience. A celebration of the image as entity, the London Greek Film Festival’s character is different, vivid, and absolutely interactive.

It is where we will celebrate new technologies and how they have revolutionised the moving image. But that’s not all! The London Greek Film Festival will offer the sweetest mix of global influences and state of the art technology while encompassing Greek heritage and culture.

The London Greek Film Festival is a project that promotes the kind of open creativity which integrates the speed of information and digital culture as demonstrated in feature fiction films, short films, documentaries, animation, student movies and video art.

The London Greek Film Festival organised by our multidisciplinary team will provide a welcoming space to artists, film-makers, practitioners, academics, technologists and art-film lovers for discussion, education and networking.

We are open-minded, enthusiastic, creative people wanting to make a difference in the cultural scene of London. Starting from scratch, we are willing to achieve that and make the London Film Greek Festival one of the cities’ greatest celebrations of culture through moving images and visual art. London Greek Film Festival is a project developed by CosmoCinema Ltd, supported by the Hellenic Centre and realized by London Greek Film Festival Ltd. Founder and artistic director of the festival is the Film/Theatre Director Christos Prossylis.

The registered office of the London Greek Film Festival Ltd is: 15 York Gate, South Gate, London N14 6HS, UK. Our company registration number is 6584335, London UK.

How is it different from the conventional Greek Film Festivals? What are the objectives of the London Greek Film Festival?

From short films to documentaries, animation to video art, there is nothing this festival doesn’t offer even to the most demanding viewer. Aside from a great opportunity to network with a diverse body of talent, this festival becomes the international focus point for Greek moving image.

The LGFF is a unique opportunity which will unite Greek producers and authors from all over the world, in addition to artists that exhibit Greek historical or cultural themes and individuals whose films make use of the Greek language, or whose works are produced in the country itself.

The first LGFF is a new concept in that it invites work from international artists of Greek heritage as well as from others who have an interest in Greece and Greek related themes. The festival concept is as flexible as new media and the web - transcending borders and allowing art to explore life in a globalised world.

In addition to the in house screenings and events, the festival will capitalise on digital technology to present an Online Festival that will showcase the best contemporary talent in film and video based work.

Who is the London Greek Film Festival for? Where does it take place? When is it?

Everyone is invited at the Hellenic Centre, where the London Greek Film Festival takes place at the heart of London, at 16-18 Paddington Street, in Marylebone, W1U. From 13th to 16th of November 2008 the doors will be open and you are all invited.

Why should you attend?

To cultivate your mind, to discover the potential of the latest film technologies and to access a wide network of people in the film making industry. Whether you are a cultural explorer, an amateur student, a renowned film director, or anything in between the London Greek Film Festival will surely inspire you.
